My family and I want to special thanks to Richard Lock, Frank Berke, Peter Zukow and all the participants in the 1st Annual Reeling for Ronnie Fishing Tournament. We are thrilled at the generosity of the winners and of all the fishermen’s contributions to the Ron Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. I know a great time was had by all. I’ve heard a few stories and I know Ron was definitely with you in spirit. Your support of the program we have in place on Isla Mujeres allows us to move forward adding other young people to our list of recipients. The opportunity that opens up for these students and their families would not be possible without donations and we are very grateful for your help and support.

Our committee of three; Gladys Galdamez, Cristina Salas and Gwen Brown have a comprehensive list of criteria to help us in making decisions as to which students will be recipients of the fund. We interview the students and their families and each student devotes a portion of their time in some volunteer capacity on the island. Currently we have 4 students with a 5th soon to join us. Nadia Escalante Camaal joined the program in May and she will be studying Criminology. The word is out amongst the people of Isla Mujeres and Gladys has been approached by parents inquiring about the fund. I look forward to getting back to Isla Mujeres in November to start the process of adding more candidates.

Thank you all for remembering Ron in such a meaningful way. I know we all miss him and he will never be forgotten.

I hope you have a good summer and we will think of you enjoying some of that salmon or halibut on the barbeque.
